Would you buy a second hand hat?

Absolute Horse Magazine asked us this question recently and we replied with an emphatic NO. Please, never ever buy a second hand riding hat. The reason is that you don’t know what has happened to it in the past and, as you can see from this article, even though a hat may look fine from the outside, it may not be on the inside and so may compromise your safety.

You can download and read the full article here – ‘Is your hat still safe?’.

Another grateful Champion rider

We recently had another lovely letter from a lovely Champion customer. It sounds like Paula had an horrific fall and we are so glad that she was wearing her Champion hat and it help to protect her from a more serious injury.

“Thought I should write a little thank you note to all at Champion. My name is Paula Troup and I had a bad accident on my horse in June. She had a bit of a temper tantrum, reared up and fell back landing on top of me! I broke my pelvis in 2 places, broke 6 ribs and punctured a lung but I firmly believe I would have been a lot worse off had I not been wearing my hat (a Champion vent air). Having only just been cleared to ride again I had a looked at my hat which apart from a few outer scuffs looks in good order from the outside but on closer inspection is cracked in several places so it did its job perfectly. (Extremely glad it was cracked and not my skull)!!!! Lol.

Yours thankfully Paula. X”

And we’re so delighted that Paul has been cleared to go back riding again. Thanks for contacting us Paula!

Champion and Toggi to support Jason Webb and Australian Horsemanship

Jason Webb Australian Horse Training

Here at Champion and with our sister brand Toggi, we are passionate supporters of equestrianism and equestrian talent and we are delighted to add Jason Webb and his team at Australian Horsemanship to our stable of top riders.

We first came across Jason when one of our team attended one of his clinics with her own horse. She was hugely impressed with Jason’s practical, easy to understand approach to training horses and his focus not only on the immediate end result, but on the whole journey to ensure safer, more progressive training for both horse and rider. It became clear to us that Jason and his ethos of ‘creating a balance between horse & rider’ was an approach that fits perfectly with our Toggi and Champion brands and we’re delighted to support Jason and his team in their work.”

Jason’s training is based around the practicalities of handling and riding horses with confidence and control, which lead to a safe and successful partnership. From his centre in Kent, Jason and his team specialise in starting young horses and retraining horses with behavioural and ridden problems and regularly conduct clinics and demonstrations nationwide.

On working with us, Jason commented “I’m so delighted to be working with Toggi and Champion as I’ve been a huge fan of their products for many years. My team and I are out in all weathers, all year round so it’s vital that we have the right gear to keep us warm, dry and comfortable, whatever the weather and our Toggi gear does this job to perfection! Safety is also crucially important to me. We have many youngsters and horses with challenging problems coming through the yard each year and it’s vital that my staff and I wear an up to standard riding hat to help keep us safe. I love my new Champion Air-Tech helmet as I can wear it comfortably all day long and with the peace of mind that it is made in Great Britain by Champion – a company with an outstanding reputation for safety.”
